Nicknamed "The Venice of America" Ft. Lauderdale is the Yacht Capital of the World. It is well known for its elaborate boating canals, busy cruise ports and beautiful beaches This beautiful city started as a military fort and trading post during the Second Seminole War, and while the forts are no longer standing, the name has stuck Ft Lauderdale enjoys a year-round subtropical climate with 250 days of sunshine per year.
Ft Lauderdale is home to the only coral reef found in the continental United States. This tract runs from Dry Tortuga to St Lucie Inlet for a total of 360 miles. An artificial reef program also exists offshore, using dozens of shipwrecked ships
